Suntje Sagerer is a visual artist based in Berlin, working between the city and the rural landscape of Bad Muskau in Saxony, near the Polish border.

For Suntje Sagerer, art is an existential necessity. It is the space where the complexity, beauty, contradictions, and vulnerability of life are transformed into images, forms, and spatial experiences. Through artistic practice, she continuously searches for orientation, inner clarity, and a visual language capable of addressing the fundamental questions of human existence.

At the core of her practice lies an exploration of identity, belonging, care, justice, and social inequality. She works across painting, drawing, sculpture, objects, installation, photography, video, digital media, NFTs, and participatory exhibition formats, allowing each idea to determine its own material and visual form.

The central body of her work is Iconic Identities, an expanding artistic universe of interconnected figures that explores cultural identity through visual archetypes. Every figure is given a distinct name, visual language, and cultural context. Rather than portraying individuals, these figures condense historical experience, social roles, cultural memory, and collective narratives into autonomous artistic identities.

These identities transcend individual media. Whether they appear as drawings, paintings, sculptures, reliefs, installations, animations, or NFTs, their identity remains constant while their form evolves. Together they constitute a continuously growing artistic universe that offers new perspectives on human existence, cultural identity, and contemporary society.

Within Iconic Identities, Sagerer developed the ongoing series Iconic Mammas, in which care is explored as a fundamental cultural and social force. Building upon this foundation, she created further series including Iconic Queens, Iconic Reliefs, and other interconnected bodies of work that examine memory, power, representation, and social reality. Moving between intimacy and monumentality, her works merge influences from devotional imagery, contemporary visual culture, and everyday social observation.

Alongside her artistic practice, Sagerer founded the Minimal Art Gallery (MAG), an experimental exhibition format conceived as a social sculpture that creates new spaces for artistic exchange, dialogue, and cultural participation.
