Suntje is a mixed-media artist whose practice brings together drawing, painting, and sculpture.

Suntje Sagerer is an artist based in Berlin and in the rural region along the german–polish border whose practice unfolds across painting, drawing, objects, sculpture, and digital image spaces. Her work revolves around the question of how identity, care, and social attribution can be negotiated visually—not as fixed categories, but as fragile, constantly shifting constructions. Within her pieces, dense and often poetically fractured visual worlds emerge, where intimacy collides with the gaze of society.

A central focus of her practice is the Iconics Mammas and Iconic Queens series, in which she examines motherhood beyond cliché—as a powerful, contradictory, and iconic motif. Here, personal experience and collective image traditions converge into figures that appear simultaneously vulnerable and monumental—situated between devotional imagery, pop iconography, and contemporary forms of self-assertion.

With the Minimal Art Gallery, an exhibition format she founded that functions simultaneously as a social sculpture, Sagerer establishes a deliberate counterpoint to conventional exhibition practices within the art world. In a playful gesture, she creates miniature spaces in which artworks operate not through scale but through idea and presence—inviting proximity, engagement, and dialogue. Her artistic approach follows an open, process-oriented mode of thinking: material, format, and medium are means rather than ends. The resulting works offer fewer answers than they pose questions—about visibility, role models, and the possibility of asserting oneself within the image as both artist and mother.
